I know my posts have been few and far between lately but while I have been thinking about shooting your weddings and
families I have been planning my own wedding. It’s such a big day and so much planning, time and energy goes into it but it really only lasts a few hours and I think in the midst of it we can forget about the actual Marriage part. The exciting part, the reason for the big day, to spend the rest of your life with someone that you love. For me that person is James Harrell who has been a wonderful blessing to me over the years first as just a friend and now as my best friend and soon to be husband.
James and I were together a few weekends ago. While we were waiting for my tire to be repaired at a shop in Charleston, we sat outside a Chick Fil A
and read “The Sacred Marriage” together. A book that we are going through with dear friends and mentors, Patrick and Kitsie Harmon, who are doing our pre- marital instruction. This book is phenomenal I strongly recommend it, weather you are not married, engaged or married for 35 years, this book just gives a whole new perspective on Marriage.
Gary Thomas’ thesis is “What if God designed Marriage to make us Holy more than to make us happy?” I think marriage is God’s tool to pull us closer to him. In one of the most intimate relationships we will ever share we see another person for who they truly are and hopefully we will push each other towards God and challenge each other in good ways. I will leave you all with this quote from the book. “Beauty is often birthed in struggle. These points of impact may not be “fun” – in fact, they can make us feel like we’re being ripped apart- but in the process can make us stronger, build our character and deepen our faith.”
